Tips on How to Browse
Family History Web Sites
Understand the categories

Understand the categories
- Read through each category description. The descriptions
explains the types of records grouped under that heading.
Knowing what types of information the categories contain will
help you make decisions about where to begin browsing.

Keyword Search field
- Type in keywords (topics) you would like to search for, such
as "cemeteries" or "Elkington Family
Organization."
- The "Keyword Search" field by default only
searches the current category unless you select the radio
button, "All Categories." Then all 16 categories
will be searched.

Look
for record types
- Scan the category descriptions for types of records that
might help you. When you find a description that looks
promising, click the category heading to see related topics.

Browse the
"Key Genealogical Sites" category
- This category lists major genealogy web sites. It allows you
to browse other web sites that can assist you in your
research.

Browse the "Places"
category
- The "Places" category provides an alternative to
browsing by specific topics. Focus your search to an area of
the world (a state, province, country, or region), and then
narrow the search by browsing topics associated with that
place. Starting with a place helps you filter out extraneous
information. Year Range (If you select Year Range, you must
provide a year in the Year box.)

- Use this to type in a keyword to look for web sites devoted
to specific surnames or family organizations.
