The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) collectionLook this term up in the glossary. contains Bible records from Delaware. The collection is:

Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Delaware. Old Bible Records. 13 vols. Newark, Del.: n.p., 1944-73. (FHL book 975.1 V29d; on 5 films starting with 845762; computer number 254402.) This collection contains records of persons living about 1650-1970, to which the Historical Society of Delaware has an every-name index.

A partial index to the DAR collection of Bible records is:

Kirkham, E. Kay. An Index to Some of the Bibles and Family Records of the United States. Vol. 2. Logan, Utah: Everton Publishers, 1984. (FHL book Ref 973 D22kk v. 2; fiche 6089184; computer number 298346.)

The Delaware Public Archives (see the “Archives and Libraries” section of this outline for the address) is actively collecting and indexing Bible records. You can write for more information about the current status of this collection. Some representative biographical publications or collections are:

Bendler, Bruce A. Colonial Delaware Assemblymen, 1682-1775. Westminster, Md.: Family Line Publications, 1989. (FHL book 975.1 N2b; computer number 619146.) The name, death date, county of residence and date, and often the parents, wife, children, and sources are listed.

Biographical and Genealogical History of the State of Delaware . . . 2 vols. Chambersburg, Pa.: J.M. Runk & Co., 1899. (FHL film 1000155; computer number 254221.) This contains biographies from the 1600s to 1890s.

Turner, Joseph Brown. Genealogical Collection of Delaware Families. Salt Lake City: Genealogical Society of Utah, 1948. (FHL films 006272-300; computer number 374992.) This consists of alphabetical files for about 3,000 families. The Delaware Public Archives has the original films.

The Delaware Public Archives has a Book Catalog Index on 3 x 5 cards which indexes names mentioned in genealogies and local histories. This is by surname and does not contain given names. This is not a complete index to all the surnames. They will search it for you, if you include a large, self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request.

The records of the Kent County Mutual Insurance Company, 1847-1946, are at the Delaware Public Archives and are on microfilm. These records are indexed by the insured individuals' names 1847-1865. This material is not available at the Family History Library.

Publications

Following is a list of the major collections and publications for the state of Delaware:

Clark, Raymond B., ed. Delaware Tombstone Inscriptions. St. Michaels, Md.: R. B. Clark, 1989. (FHL book 975.1 A1 no. 20; computer number 560347.) This contains burial information on 700 revolutionary soldiers in the three counties, 600 of which are in small church and family cemeteries.

Dill, Raymond Walter. Souls in Heaven, Names in Stone, Kent County, Delaware Cemetery Records. Baltimore: Gateway Press, 1989. (FHL book 975.14 V3d; computer number 526301.) The information for this work was gathered from headstones, cemetery records, maps, deeds, Bibles and by word of mouth.

Hudson, Millard F. Cemetery Records of Sussex County, Delaware. Salt Lake City: Genealogical Society of Utah, 1948. (FHL film 006690; computer number 314657.) This includes transcriptions from 630 cemeteries. It is available at the Delaware Public Archives and at the Family History Library.

Tatnall, Walter G. Tombstone Records, New Castle County, Kent County, and Sussex County, Delaware. Salt Lake City: Genealogical Society of Utah, 1949. (FHL film 006303; computer number 303723.) This includes inscriptions from nearly 800 small cemeteries. It is available at the Delaware Public Archives and at the Family History Library. A card index to this is available at the Delaware Public Archives. The Family History Library does not have a copy of the index.
