What is TempleReady for Windows®?

A: 

TempleReady for Windows is a Windows version that can help members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints submit the names of their ancestors for temple ordinance work.

Is TempleReady for Windows available for home use?

A: 

No. It will only be available in Church-owned family history centers.

What are the system requirements for TempleReady for Windows?

  • Pentium® 90 or higher
  • Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0+
  • 16 MB RAM minimum (32 MB preferred)
  • 240 MB hard disk space
  • 4X CD-ROM drive or faster
  • VGA monitor with 256-color-capable video card
  • Optional: Sound card

Q: 

Will TempleReady work on a Macintosh Computer?

A: 

TempleReady for Windows was developed for Windows 95, 98, and Windows NT4.0+. It has not been tested with Macintosh computers, and currently there are no plans to create a version for Macintosh.

At this time the program is available in English, Spanish, French, German, Portugese, and Japanese.

What is the function of the Submit Family Names for Temple Ordinances button?

A: 

This button begins the process that allows you prepare names for the temple.

What kind of file is needed to submit names for temple ordinances in TempleReady for Windows?

A: 

You can submit data from Personal Ancestral File 3.0+ or higher or a GEDCOM file created in PAF or any other compatible genealogy program. Note: The option to update your file with completed ordinance dates will not work if your file is a GEDCOM file.

Q: 

What kind of file is needed to take to the temple to perform ordinances?

A: 

You will need a Submission file on a 3.5-inch high-density diskette.

Is it possible to type names of individuals for whom you want to perform temple ordinances directly into TempleReady for Windows?

A: 

No. You must first type the names into Personal Ancestral File or another commercial family history records manager program.

How many names should I prepare to send to the temple at one time?

A: 

The number of names submitted to the temple at one time should be limited to the number of ordinances you can perform in two to three months. It is suggested that the submissions include families as much as possible, although individuals are acceptable.

Is my name, address, and telephone number information protected from improper use?

A: 

Yes. Information regarding the person submitting data is protected by copyright law and other legal restrictions. Your information may be published with Church genealogical databases so people can contact you, but only if you give permission.

How do I reprint a TempleReady report?

A: 

Go into TempleReady, insert the backup disk, and select the file with the *.tbk extension. Then go to step 5 of the TempleReady process, which allows you to reprint the temple submission report.

Why should I make a backup of my TempleReady work?

A: 

A backup disk is used to print or reprint your temple submission report or to regenerate a submission. For example, if you lost your submission disk or your submission disk was copied onto a damaged disk, you will want to have a backup submission. Note: Making a backup copy of your TempleReady submission is strongly recommended.

Q: 

Can I stop the TempleReady process and come back later where I left off?

A: 

Yes. The Save My Place option allows you to exit and save your place in the program and continue at a later time. If you select Save My Place, you will be prompted to enter a file name for your work. This file will have the extension *.IPS and be listed with other files when you open a file.

What is the Ordinance Index?

A: 

A record of all the temple ordinances that have been performed for deceased individuals in temples owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

What is the function of the Update My Records button?

A: 

This button helps you reconcile your records with information in the Ordinance Index by bringing the completed ordinance dates over into your genealogical records manager program like Personal Ancestral File (PAF). This function only works if you are using a PAF data file, not if you are using a GEDCOM file.

Q: 

What kind of file is needed to use the Update My Records button?

A: 

TempleReady for Windows will only perform the Update My Records function on a data file created in Personal Ancestral File 3.X or higher. If you use a GEDCOM export file from other software that is compatible with Personal Ancestral File 3.X or higher, TempleReady for Windows will create a separate update file.

What does the Family History Centers button do?

A: 

This button allows you to access address information about family history centers located throughout the world. This button will not be operational unless used on a computer that has Internet access.
