The staff at the Family History Library has produced the
following types of documents to assist you in your family history
research. Click below to see a list of the documents.
- Forms
and census work sheets are helpful in recording research
findings.
- Letter-writing
guides provide information for how to write letters
requesting genealogical information from non-English speakers
and provides some non-English translations of foreign words.
- Reference
documents provide useful information such as the
historical background (chronological history) of a place,
addresses of Family History Centers around the world, and so
forth. Reference Documents do not contain step-by-step
instructions.
- Research
outlines describe the records and strategies that can
be used to pursue family history research in a specific
geographic location or particular type of record.
- Step-by-step
guides provide specific instructions about how to
search the record type you have chosen, tips for searching the
record type, samples of record types, background information
about the record type, and where to find the record.
- Word
lists contain English translations of foreign words.
